Cars in Germany's City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities reported they were contacted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a statement.

Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.

City officials said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.

An important political figure commented the incident rendered him without words and had to be resolved promptly.

"This act affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
